I made some calls to get out the vote for Rodham Clinton in 2016, and one of the respondents I spoke to said she wasn’t planning to vote because “I’m not very interested in politics.” What I wish I’d said to her, and what I will say to you now, in case you’re not planning to vote in the 2022 midterms, is “The thing is, politics is very interested in you.” Because I’m not very interested in politics either. I find it sordid and nerve-racking and tedious, all at the same time. I would love never to think about it except once every two years when I go to the polling place and get a free pen. But this is too important. For people with functioning wombs, for LGBTQ kids, for the climate, for just about everything I hold dear. That’s why I’ve been writing letters and postcards to get out the vote, and knocking on doors, and donating to candidates. And it’s why I’m asking you to vote as soon as you can, if you haven’t yet. Don’t wait for Election Day. Join the groundswell of pro-democracy voters right now! NOW, YOU JERKFACES! Because politics is interested in you!
