Americans said a lot of very cruel and often false things about each other during this election cycle. We called each other hurtful names. It doesn’t seem right that we can’t speak civilly or rationally to each other on matters of such importance. Maybe we can make up fewer false narratives about others if we focus our attention instead on the true ones about ourselves.

My truth right now is that I’m having a hard time. I feel threatened and angry and scared. But I am trying to be good to myself and not predict the future, because whenever I do that I make myself miserable and usually turn out to have been way off the mark anyway. My sister has helped me a lot by linking to some good talks on anxiety from a Buddhist perspective, like this one. Give it a try; if nothing else, the guy’s voice is very soothing.
